Shelburne, VT March 2002 – Climb High has assembled a six-pack of talented athletes to shine the light on its Mammut alpine and Julbo sunglass brands. Each team member shares the passion to excel in all climbing disciplines.
“We feel it’s important to our grass roots brand-building efforts to create a team with high credibility among climbers in key geographic regions” said Derek Doucet, Climb High’s Marketing and Advertising Director. “We sought out athletes whose breadth and depth of climbing expertise will help showcase the Mammut’s diverse product line, from bouldering to high altitude mountaineering gear and apparel.”
Team members will be involved in supporting reps at sales events, participate in trade shows, and represent Climb High at various rock and ice climbing public events. Team Climb High members include Will Mayo of Vermont, Rob Frost and Tim Kemple from New Hampshire, Joe Lind, Idaho; and husband and wife duo Carolyn Parker and John Kear from New Mexico. Following are brief highlights of each climber’s career.
Will
Mayo is known for his infectious enthusiasm and motivation. He routinely on-sights WI 6+, M7 placing gear, and hard trad
rock. His resume includes ascents
of Mount Robson in Canada, Alaska’s Mount Hunter, three ascents of New
England’s legendary Omega, and solos of numerous WI5s including Polar Circus
in Canada. He's a regular at Lake Willoughby, VT, arguably the finest winter
climbing destination in the lower 48. Mayo is also a prolific new router, with
hard ice and mixed first ascents in Vermont and the Adirondacks.
Rob Frost is an accomplished and strong all-arounder. He has climbed throughout the world; ice and alpine routes in the Canadian Rockies and Norway, rock in Australia and Spain, and just about everything in the Northeastern and Western US. He is a senior guide for International Mountain Climbing School and a budding filmmaker. Frost’s first feature, “Uncommon Ground,” capturing the vibrant spirit of the New England climbing community, is set for public debut this spring.
Tim Kemple is intrigued by all aspects of the climbing game. He has redpointed 5.13+ clip ups, and established V10 boulder problems. Tim is one of the principle members of a small group of Northeastern climbers quietly bringing British gritstone style "headpointing" to the area. His appetite for bold traditional routes has produced 5.12-5.13 R/X first ascents on eastern granite. A prolific photographer and writer, Kemple’s work has been published in Climbing, Rock & Ice, Trail Runner, and other magazines. He is the author of the guidebook to the east coast bouldering paradise of Pawtuckaway, New Hampshire.
Joe Lind has been described as “your garden variety WI6, 5.12 trad climber”! He regularly travels from his home in Northern Idaho to the alpine playgrounds of the Canadian Rockies, the Selkirks, and the Cascades.
Carolyn Parker is fascinated by climbing of every sort, and can be found bouldering one day, cranking steep ice the next. She has been a national-level competitor in cycling, mountain biking, and trail running, and makes her living as a professional climber and guide. Her guiding and climbing have taken her from the Andes and Himalaya to the big walls of Yosemite, from desert splitters in Southern Utah to the frozen gems of the Canadian Rockies.
John Kear. Kear is an AMGA-certified rock and alpine guide, and has made his living as a professional climber and mountain guide for the last eight years. He is currently pursuing his international guiding certification (IFMGA), a distinction only held a small handful of America's most accomplished guides. Kear's experience includes hundreds of difficult climbs throughout North America, the Andes, and the Himalaya. His passion is difficult first ascents in high-commitment environments.
